CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Seth Nightroad. Also known as "Empress Augusta Vradica of the New Human Empire" and "Krusnik 03"
Age: approx 966 years old.
Canon: Trinity Blood
Canon Point: Chapter 34 of the Manga, after the "Queen of the Night" arc
Character Information: here!
Personality:
Seth is, by and large, a game master. During conversations and personal interactions, she often keeps up veils and masks, pretending to be no more than a lively girl. As a result she is very difficult to know; she can and will misdirect with quips, distractions and jokes. If she is seen as a little odd, mysterious or otherwise, so much the better. She does not want to be known as a general rule. There is nothing to be gained by letting those around her know who she is. Her symbol as the mother-goddess like figure of the New Human Empire is far too important to make personal personal.
For as Empress, she has created a haven. She is known as mother of the nation, bringing balance by calling all of her subjects her 'children' to be cherished, protected and loved. Over the course of eight hundred years, she has protected her subjects in every way she can, creating the Empire and rebuilding their part of the world from devastation. It is a healthy, prosperous nation, gaining power and influence every year. The Empire is so powerful that the Church and various organizations have become weary of the New Human Empire, seeking out to strike against her, or seek truce.
This is what she was able to create: a legend of her person, as well as a haven, to be respected and feared. But this is also a play act created, a measure in which she uses to protect not only herself, but the people she cares for.
The protection continues in her various other guises. When she is out on the streets, she pretends to be little more then a teenaged girl. At first glance, she appears eccentric with a casual disregard for social or cultural barriers. She appears typical, if flirtatious and friendly, easy to dismiss or ignore. Ion certainly seems ready to do so when confronted by an outspoken Terran (another word for 'human' within the world setting).
Often, she will act very playful, taking delight in teasing others (such as Ion when he initially refused to get groceries for Esther by commenting on how he could bathe and bandage Esther instead). It's rare not to see her with a cheerful smile on her face, greeting others with a peace sign or sideways V by her eyes.
When asked who she is, she'll remark cheerfully, with a wink and a smile that she is Seth, just a pretty girl. Teasing and flirting, she even remarks to Esther when she awakens that Ion had been meowing in worry.
And light behavior covers of the fact that she is a liar. As the Empress, few people ever get to see her actual person. Even the most high ranked nobles tend to see her outline, with a voice modifier. Even then, she tends to wear a hat and a heavy veil to conceal her person. This, in turn, makes it perfect for her to switch with a double, ensuring that her movements are free-as seen throughout the arc, but particularly when the New Human Empire is holding a duma, or congress.
The deception does not stop there. If she has enough motivation-and even if she doesn't-Seth will lie. She says she is just an ordinary girl when she's asked who or what she is-but this has never been the case and she knows it. When she is caught doing this she shouldn't be able to do, she quips easily as to what it is with a smile-for example, when she shows off her combat medic skills, she lies, and tells Ion and Esther that she's a medical student in a top tier school. Even when asked her age, she answers 13 without any signs of a liar. It's almost, if not entirely, reflex to deceive the people around her to think that she is less then what she is. From the lies, the politicking, and the way she lured out the Order, she has little reason to trust anyone. Mostly, when it comes to her work as the Empress (with the nobles as her puppets, acting on her orders whether to hinder or help those around her) or as herself ( with helping out representatives of the Vatican when they were attacked by autojagers) she does what she does in order to help herself. Seth does whatever she wants, and does not let mild moral barriers get in the way.
But when there are barriers, whether they are people, objects, or politics, the facade tends to slip. When Ion tried to refuse her help in the matter of assisting Esther as the young woman went into shock, Seth calmly, if ruthlessly, tells him what he is to do to save Esther's life. He finds himself instilled with so much fear that he asks (more like blurts) out the question of who she is.
This was Seth being nice, if efficient. When it came to the Autojagers (Dietrich's living dead soldiers) Seth does not hesitate to use her abilities to render them into powder. When Dietrich attempts to use Radu to kill her, that's when she loses her formidable temper. As she uses the Krusik to destroy Radu's body, she tells Dietrich that she's letting him off lightly-but she will catch him no matter where he runs, and she will destroy him.
No one toys with her beloved people. Not if they wish to live.
And yet, for all that she is powerful personally and politically, she has her soft spots. It is seen with the friendly interaction with Esther, who spoke to her as a friend from the start; from granting the many chances and doting on her subjects (with her teasing on Ion in particular). Seth's most notable act of mercy was after Süleyman's attempt to assassinate her after his plot was revealed. When he was shot and fell, Seth knelt in his blood and pulled his head onto his lap, offering comfort as he lay dying.
However, these merciful moments can be rare. But more rare are the flashes of personal pain and softness. When her pet hisses and retreats after seeing her Kruisk release, a forlorn expression crosses her face; she declares that she is hated again, before hugging Abel, her brother.
Seth loves the color green to the point of making it the Empresses color; no other is allowed to wear it within the her Empire. She also has a great fondness for part time jobs, using them for information, relaxation, and a way to see the people. Seth also enjoys making small animals her pets, numbering amongst them squirrels, rabbits, and small birds. At odd times sometimes she will name them after her older brother Abel.
Abel is the only one she acknowledges as personal family. With their private interactions, Seth displays a rare offer of physical affection. She obviously looks out for Abel, for all he is the older sibling. For example, it is due to his Vatican alliance that she does not declare war. Seth also invited him to stay, for all he would likely get underfoot. But when he declined, she did not beg him to stay, knowing he had other priorities. Although they are apart, they are still family.
